Four More Years in the Whitehouse

Last night at 11:18 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, CNN announced that President Barack Obama had defeated former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney to gain a second term in office. Obama won by a smaller margin compared to the landslide victory that he carried in 2008 against Arizona Senator John McCain, easily gathering the 270 electoral votes needed to be reelected, but still 33 votes behind the 365 he collected four years ago.

UniAtlantico Students Participate In Nationwide Protest

UniAtlantico students voiced disagreement with their school´s administration earlier this month during a campus protest. The Student Council of UniAtlantico writes on its Facebook group that protesters gathered during the afternoon hours of Friday, October 12th, to draw attention to several demands for improvements to infrastructure, library materials and school finances.

The Centro Cultural Colombo Americano, in collaboration with the US Department of State and its office of English Language Programs/Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, is offering free webinars called “Shaping the way we teach English”. The series of five events, each lasting 90 minutes, are open to all TESOL professionals and students in the city. Participants that attend at least three sessions are eligible for an  e-certificate of participation, which could be used on a resume or job application.

Mysterious Power Outage Cancels Classes

On Thursday, October 4th, UniAtlantico students attended normal classes and activities. However, at approximately 6 pm, the university suffered a power outage which affected classroom lights, computer labs and offices. Power was restored approximately five minutes later. However, at 6:18 pm, a second power outage occurred that lasted the rest of the night.

Discover Your Own Way To Learn Languages

During last week´s UniAtlantico News meeting, we recorded a podcast where we discussed our own experiences of learning a new language. All of us are foreign languages students at La Universidad del Atlantico, so we must be able to learn three or possibly four languages (English, French, German and Italian) at the same time. The question is then “what strategies can be used in order to be successful every year?” The answer to this question varies from one student to another and also depends on the resources and time available.
